Drew Barrymore Loses Her Head Writers Ahead of Talk Show Return
Vanity Fair: Following Drew Barrymore’s controversial handling of the writers strike in September, her namesake talk show is returning—but all three of its head writers have decided to head in the opposite direction, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

I am quite disappointed to hear that Drew Barrymore was not supportive of the writers on her show. While I have not watched her show, I have heard so many positive things about her and how she treats her guests. Barrymore’s show replaced Ellen Degeneres’ show, who was notoriously rude to staff and guests. It is also so unfortunate that these writers found out the show was scheduled to return from social media. It just proves how little executives think of their employees: it should have at least been an email. It is also shocking considering these writers have earned two Emmys for their work on this show. You would think Barrymore and other executives would want them to stay on. I went to a talk back that Stephen Colbert did in August and while he was anxious to get his show back up and running, he understood the importance of supporting WGA.
I’m really happy to see that she is finally seeing the consequences of her actions. She thought she could call her show a “newsworthy show” and continue despite the at the time on going writers strike and not have any backlash for it. She then “apologized” and continued anyway thinking people would accept that as good enough. And now she’s finally getting what’s been coming to her. Being dropped as host of the national book awards, and finally listening to the striking workers and shutting down, as she still thought she could be redeemed. It really makes me glad to see her writers decided not to go back on her show. This writers strike is one of the most successful strikes I know of and the impact it has had is astronomical. I can’t wait to see what else it does for our culture, and hopefully we keep up the support for the actors that remain on strike now.
