The Best Thing In Your Mix Is Ruining Your Mix: Thoughts On Managing The Low End
ProSoundWeb: Anthony and I had finally done it: we had a pair of Yamaha NS10s set up in a hotel room, ready to make our mark. Those speakers meant something — every serious studio had them, and every mixer we admired worked on them. Now we had what the pros had.

Critical Crossover: Getting The Most Out Of The Transition Area Between Subs & Mains
ProSoundWeb: I think most live mix engineers agree that a solid, thumping low-end response in pop and rock music is the standard and a preferred sonic outcome. However, the techniques we use to get that nice round sub bass low end are not always agreed upon.

The FOH Engineer's Guide to Better Rehearsals
Church Production Magazine: The rehearsal has barely begun when someone raises a hand.
"I don't have any guitar."
A few minutes later someone notices a keyboard isn't passing signal, a monitor mix needs attention, or the worship leader pauses to work through an unexpected issue. None of these interruptions are unusual, but together they can keep a rehearsal from accomplishing what it was intended to do.

Visualizing Uniformity: Common Misconceptions When Reading Heat Map Predictions
ProSoundWeb: An isobaric acoustic prediction is a critically important tool that allows a sound system designer to predict and evaluate how well a sound system covers the audience area. Designers and engineers can see a “pressure map” or “heat map” of the system coverage at a particular frequency range.

Lowering The Boom: Keeping Bass Energy Under Control As Part Of A Semi-Silent Stage
ProSoundWeb: Bass players provide the foundation for nearly all contemporary music. Without them, our mixes sound thin and nobody wants to dance. Add the right amount of bass and all of the sudden it’s a show. But while we love bass, it often leads to trouble, particularly in small rooms.

Solid State Logic To Present New System T V4.3 Update At IBC 2026 In Amsterdam
ProSoundWeb: Solid State Logic (SSL) announced that it is expanding its Open Sound Control (OSC) integration as part of a V4.3 update to its System T platform at IBC 2026 at RAI Amsterdam (stand 8.B45).
Providing the ability for external systems to control System T console parameters via the open and extensible OSC protocol, the upgrade gives third-party equipment seamless access to the SSL ecosystem, supporting ad hoc workflows and offering enhanced flexibility and interoperability in modern production environments.

Simply Logical: A Straightforward Approach To Mixing Console Layout
ProSoundWeb: Somewhere back in the paleolithic era of live sound, mixing consoles were noisy. That’s because they were made of stuff. Look inside a modern digital console and what you’ll find is a few ribbon cable connecting the fader/encoder banks to a small motherboard. All that computerized digital magic has made audio mixers very, very quiet.

A Simpler Approach to Distributed Audio: The BZBGear BG-AMP150WD with DSP and Dante
Church Production Magazine: In church production, small pieces of infrastructure often do the most invisible—and most critical—work. Distributed audio systems rarely get the spotlight, yet they shape first impressions before a single worship note is played. From parking lots and outdoor walkways to lobbies, cafés, and restrooms, these systems are responsible for creating a welcoming environment that feels intentional, polished, and consistent.

1+1+1: Three Things That Every Mix Shares
ProSoundWeb: There are a lot of ways to build a great front of house mix. And there’s a lot of information out there about best practices when it comes to routing, EQs, dynamics, FX, and everything in between.
But when it comes to my approach to mixing, there’s something that’s often overlooked and much more fundamental than any of the minutiae of mixing.

Multiple Destinations: Three Common Problems With Livestreaming From The FOH Console & How To Solve Them
ProSoundWeb: Thanks to the recent industry “pivot” towards livestreaming, I’ve seen a lot of forum posts, received a lot of phone calls, and talked to a lot of colleagues – mostly in house of worship audio – about how to achieve a successful livestream mix from front of house. Most of them boil down to three main issues, discussed here with my suggested approach for addressing each.
The Quad Console: Reconstructing The Desk For Pink Floyd's "Live at Pompeii" Performance In 1971
ProSoundWeb: It’s October 1971, and the Pink Floyd sound crew is setting up for the filming of “Live at Pompeii” in an ancient Roman amphitheater, having driven the equipment by road for three days from the UK. Pride of place is a new Allen & Heath 28-into-6 “Quad” mixer, the brainchild of maverick Floyd road manager Peter Watts.

Versatile Variations: An Approach To Downscaling To A Smaller Console Format
ProSoundWeb: I recently did a very compact gig with one of my regular bands that usually plays the largest format shows. This wasn’t going from 40 production semi-trailers to four, as we have for festivals in the past, where I can keep the same control package – this was scaling down to a small van carrying eight flight-cases for an exclusive performance in a small space. There was a limited footprint for my equipment, and my usual set-up was neither appropriate nor necessary.

Real World Gear: Large-Format Digital Consoles
ProSoundWeb: When we talk of “large frame” consoles, older analog units with channel counts of 40 inputs or more come to mind because they actually had very large frames loaded with channel strips. In today’s digital world, however, we’re usually referring to a console that can professionally handle a large production, even if physically it’s not all that sizeable, because most use layers of fader banks to access additional channels and functions like aux sends on faders.

Oasis Live ’25 tour brings the biggest band of the ’90s back with DiGiCo on monitors
LightSoundJournal.com: Announced two days before the 30th anniversary of Oasis’ debut album, Definitely Maybe, the Oasis Live ’25 tour marks the band’s first live appearances since they acrimoniously split in 2009. The trek, which has crossed the UK, North and South America, Australia, and Asia, was so highly anticipated that it had the serendipitous and unexpected outcome of prompting six of Oasis’ previous LP releases to re-enter the UK charts, one of which even made it back into the top ten.

The Right Formula: A Veteran Engineer's Strategies For Better House Mixes
ProSoundWeb: My first question: How can FOH engineers develop a reliable formula for mixing success? I was curious to learn about his standard process when he walks into any gig, irrespective of size or circumstance.”

2025 Component Abuse Challenge: Playing Audio On A Microphone
Hackaday: Using a speaker as a microphone is a trick old enough to have become common knowledge, but how often do you see the hack reversed? As part of a larger project to measure the acoustic power of a subwoofer, [DeepSOIC] needed to characterize the phase shift of a microphone, and to do that, he needed a test speaker.
