In Jesa, Jeena Yi Wrote the Asian American Family Drama She Always Wanted to Be In
Playbill: Who doesn’t love an American family drama? A family, sitting in their living room, fighting and rediscovering each other is the bread and butter of the American theatre. Actor Jeena Yi has long loved classics like Death of a Salesman and Long Day’s Journey Into Night, even as she knew she would never be cast in those plays.

What Do Indie Bookstores and Off-Broadway Theater Have in Common?
The Hat: One of the 27 objects in Ed Schmidt’s interactive one-person play Edward, now playing at bookstores around New York, is a beat-up copy of The Catcher in the Rye. Edward, whose life is narrated through a series of his belongings, was a high-school English teacher. Over the course of the evening, several objects — an Arthur Miller playbill, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, a hotel ashtray — demonstrate, in his words, “the vital role that reading literature plays in the development of a well-rounded life.”

Off-Broadway Takes Cuomo to Court
The BroadwayBlog: Twelve small independent New York City theatre owners pushing for a reopening date have been assigned their day in court. On Thursday, November 12, Attorney Jim Mermigis and a group of Off-Broadway theatres and comedy club owners will argue that by allowing small venues with enhanced air filtration systems to open at 25% capacity, countless artists and theater professionals will be able to go back to work – enabling theatres to earn revenue, so they can begin paying rent to landlords also hit hard by the pandemic – a move they say will also provide customers for the thousands of retail stores, restaurants and garages that surround their venues.

Industry Editor Exclusive: How Will Off-Broadway Non-Profits Survive?
www.broadwayworld.com: This week, I asked representatives from ten theatrical nonprofits in New York to speak with me. Most said yes, but many asked to speak off-the-record because the situation is changing so rapidly they didn't want to be quoted on something that would be incorrect by the time the piece ran. Unlike my usual in the weeds piece, this is purposely a more reflective one.

But there are a handful of new musicals too, including Tina: The Tina Turner Musical and Jagged Little Pill. Our guide helps you navigate what's coming.

TREND ALERT: Is the new model for musical revivals on Broadway NOT to be on Broadway?
The Producer's Perspective: This past season there were only two musical revivals on Broadway. And one of the duo was produced by a non-profit.
And next season, I only see one comin’ . . .
Why the sudden lack? Are we running out of musicals to revive?
