SIGGRAPH 2019 Diary Part One: A Whole Lotta Magic Leap
noproscenium.com: I’ve never hid the fact that I’m bearish on Magic Leap, the Florida Company augmented reality company whose pre-rollout buzz nearly eclipsed the sun.
The Big Idea behind Magic Leap is ambitious as hell: that realistic virtual objects and characters can be layered on top of physical reality through the use of a lightweight wearable device. Of course, there’s a lot of moving parts to that idea and tons of innovations not only in technology but in experience design that need to come to pass if the vision is to work.

Machinist Tools: Edge Finding
Hackaday: Machinists like to live on the edge, but they always want to know precisely where it is. If you’ve watched any machining videos (*cough*) then you’ve seen heavy use of digital readouts on machines. A “DRO” (as the cool kids call them) is a little computer that knows where the slides are, and thus where your cutter is on the piece. However, there’s a catch. DROs don’t know the absolute position of the spindle, they know the relative position of it.

Milwaukee Self-Feed Bits: A Switchblade That's Legal Everywhere
PTR: We worked with Milwaukee on accessories for our epic 50+ drill shootout to cover light and heavy load testing. On the light side, their Red Helix Titanium Twist Bits gave us a benchmark for high-speed work. To put our drills under a heavier load, we turned to Milwaukee self-feed bits, particularly their SwitchBlade bits that give you the ability to change the blade instead of the entire bit.

Adagio Tour™ Continues To Roll Out The Competition Floor For Leap!
Rosco Spectrum: When I began Leap! National Dance Competition, I knew that I had to put together a “top notch” competition with all the best elements I could implement, including sound, lighting and of course flooring. I was used to the traditional dance floor coverings that made performances better by providing a “non-slick” surface for turning and tumbling. However, almost every floor tended to be unforgiving when it came to the tap category.

Ridgid MegaMax Review - Three Heads Are Better Than One
Home Fixated: As my wife has thoughtfully pointed out once or twice, I’m a bit of a tool junkie. I’m always on the lookout for tools that can get the job done faster, more easily, and safer. If they also have a bit of a “cool” factor, well, that doesn’t hurt, either… Having the right tool for the job is always helpful, but as my wife has ALSO thoughtfully pointed out, acquiring all those tools can get a tad expensive. Having a tool system that can handle numerous tasks can be a great way to cut down on the expense – as well as the space needed to stow all those tools.
