Study Reveals That Creativity Has Been Declining Since the 1990s
mymodernmet.com: While both intelligence (IQ) and creativity (CQ) scores were climbing in the U.S. before 1990, creativity has since taken an alarming downward turn. Research by Kyung Hee Kim, a professor at William & Mary University, found that imaginative creativity for both children and adults has declined significantly over the past few decades.

While this article was relatively short, it touches on something deeply important. Over the past few decades, creativity has been on a decline. Less free time, more use of technology, and increased pressure on grades were all cited as possible reasons for this change. Something I loved from this article though, is how it posits that creative thinking is a skill that has to be nurtured. In the highly technological world we’re living in today, increasingly surrounded by AI, creativity has to become an intentional practice. Especially for people in the arts, it’s important to be creative on purpose. To make art just for art’s sake. Another interesting thought from this article was the debate over whether we’re truly becoming less creative, or if we’re just expressing it in different ways. Whatever the true answer may be, I hope that in the future, creativity will be on the rise again.
