Twitter Is On Fire Talking About How Low-Paid Hollywood Assistants Are

The Mary Sue: Twitter is having a productive day discussing and calling out the problems with how Hollywood’s writer and production assistants are grossly underpaid. EU Copyright Regulations May Prevent Artists from Sharing Work on Social Media

Artsy: Imagine it’s the summer of 2021, and an artist based in Berlin is uploading an image she created to express her support for the candidate vying to be Germany’s next chancellor—whomever she or he turns out to be—in the style of Shepard Fairey
’s iconic 2008 Barack Obama Hope campaign poster to Facebook. Before the image hits the news feed, a recently introduced Facebook upload filter checks the artist’s image against a vast database of copyrighted materials, turning up Fairey’s poster and countless other images in a similar style. The artist’s upload is denied; she can appeal the filter’s decision, but the process could take weeks, by which time the election will have passed and the image may be irrelevant. She gives up on sharing her artwork.

“Be More Chill”: How social media brought an underground musical to Broadway

www.fastcompany.com: If narrative convention counts for anything, the story of Be More Chill should have been over a long time ago. The sci-fi musical opened at a regional theater in New Jersey in 2015, ran for about four weeks, and closed after receiving a mixed response from critics, including a lukewarm review in the New York Times, which described its teen-centered plot as formulaic and its comedic efforts as having a “whiff of the stale about them.” Typically, a low-stakes show with scant marketing resources would not have had much of a life beyond that.

How Ralph Breaks the Internet's Princess Scene Got Made

That was where Disney first played a scene from the Wreck-It Ralph sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet, in which Vanellope von Schweetz meets 14 iconic Disney princesses at once. The clip crushed the audience of Disney super fans and has since been glimpsed here and there as moviegoers wait for the final film in November. However, at a recent press event, Disney pulled back the curtain to reveal how the scene came to be.

What Recruiters Pay Attention To When They Look At Your Social Media

www.fastcompany.com: You probably already know recruiters are looking at your LinkedIn page, but what about your other social media platforms? You know, the ones where you post pictures of your latest vacation, share what you had for dinner and occasionally tag your friends in memes. ‘Hepeated’ Definition & Storyline: Twitter Roundup

collegecandy.com: Part of the fight for gender and racial equality requires calling out repeated problematic behaviors that silence marginalized groups. It’s why the term “mansplaining” resonates with so many women: the experience of having men explain our own experiences to us is all-too-familiar and condescending. In calling it out and raising awareness, men may recognize when they are doing it and make an effort to be more respectful.

Why RSS Still Beats Facebook and Twitter for Tracking News

fieldguide.gizmodo.com: You’d be forgiven for thinking RSS died off with the passing of Google Reader, but our old friend Really Simple Syndication (or Rich Site Summary) still has a role to play on the web of 2017. It’s faster, more efficient, and you won’t have to worry as much about accidentally leaking your news reading habit to all your Facebook friends. Whether you’ve never heard of it before or you’ve abandoned it for pastures new, here’s why you should be using RSS for your news instead of social media.

Can Social Media actually sell tickets?

The Producer's Perspective: It takes about 15 minutes.

That’s when someone around the conference table at every ad meeting I’ve been to usually asks, “But what are we doing on Social Media?”

See, everyone knows that in modern day marketing, every show needs to be on Social Media.

Review: '#DateMe: An OkCupid Experiment' is fun with online dating and mating

Chicago Tribune: Cupid, the oft-elusive dude with the bow and arrow, is born of the Latin word cupido, meaning desire. But for those of us lonely humans who trust our love lives to the barbarism of the mobile telephonic instrument, the son of the love goddess Venus actually is best known for forming part of the name of a popular website with a mildly ironic name, although no classical icon worth their salt would be happy to be attached to the moniker "OK" for all eternity.
