Did You Know – Dressing Room Power and Light
ASTC: There are fewer than 200 words in the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70 – 2020) in regard to dressing and makeup rooms, but it’s amazing how often those words seem to be misapplied. Walk into a theatre or other performing arts facility with dressing rooms and it seems more often than not the lights or power outlets around the makeup mirrors do not comply with the electrical code. It should not be this hard.

Historic Cathedral Acoustically Replicated In Auditorium In Spain With d&b Soundscape
ProSoundWeb: The Almería (Spain) City Orchestra’s annual Christmas concert late last year needed to be presented in a different venue than usual due to the pandemic, with d&b Soundscape employed to help create the appropriate sonic environment for the production.

How Much? The Grossly Larger Space
ASTC: When discussing building design with architects, developers, or real estate managers the Gross to Net ratio is a very important factor. That ratio is the Gross square foot area divided by the Net usable square foot area. The Gross is the area defined by the outside perimeter of the building. The Net is the area available to the users, in other words the area the developer can lease to others or the operator may use productively.

More than half a billion pounds needed to sustain the UK’s theatre buildings over the next five years
ETNow.com: Research conducted by the Theatres Trust, in conjunction with UK Theatre and SOLT, has found that more than £550million is needed over the next five years for capital projects to upgrade and maintain theatres across the UK.

Platform or Stage?
theatreconsultants.org: Is it a “stage” or a “platform”? While this seems an easy question to answer, it often is a source of confusion when designing a space for performance. The distinction is quite important, with far-ranging and often expensive consequences.
