7 Very Best Job Sites on The Web to Help You Advance Your Career
www.lifehack.org: You may already know that you’re good in your field, but you need to know more.
Here’s what I mean:
Write down your soft and hard skills.

How to create an elevator pitch that doesn’t sound cheesy
www.fastcompany.com: At its best, an elevator pitch is a pithy, memorable answer to the dreaded, “Tell me about yourself.” At its worst, it’s cheesy, jargon-filled nonsense. (e.g., I’m not a writer. I’m a “word crafter on a mission to eradicate sentence-ending prepositions from the planet.”)

30 Under 30: Hailey Featherstone, Lighting Tech/FOH Tech
www.livedesignonline.com: Surrounded by light all her life, Hailey Featherstone was practically raised backstage, eyeballing the lighting cues of her father, John Featherstone, principal at Lightswitch. Since then, she has gone from strength to strength and transitioned from a successful college design path at Arizona State University under the tutelage of Jake Pinholster, to a successful career, working with artists as diverse as Paul McCartney and Beyoncé, and corporate projects for McDonalds and Mercedes Benz. With a talent belying her years, Featherstone will be one to watch in the years ahead.
Want success? Be prepared to fail
LinkedIn: “No pain, no gain” is a mantra for many people who exercise, motivating them to lose weight or get in shape.
Yet in other facets of our lives, we reflexively avoid pain, adversity and even uncertainty. A potential entrepreneur may hesitate to launch a startup because it could fail. A student may avoid law school for fear of the bar exam. Or a leader not open to new ideas could hinder a company’s ability to capitalize on opportunities.

Include these things in your resume to get the recruiter’s attention
www.fastcompany.com: Did you know that–on average–recruiters and hiring managers spend only seven seconds reading your resume before signing you up for an interview–or tossing that precious piece of paper in the trash? That’s not a lot of time to impress a potential employer. But the slush pile doesn’t have to be your job-search fate.

Some majors are quite minor
News, Sports, Jobs - Observer Today: Consider college as an investment. According to the National Student Clearinghouse, roughly half — 53 percent — of students who in 2009 were enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities graduated within six years. Jaison Abel and Richard Dietz of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York found that in 2010, 62 percent of U.S. college graduates had a job that required a college degree. Thus, roughly a third of students who enroll in college graduate in a reasonable time and get a job that requires a college degree.

Tour Life: Pros, Cons And Helpful Advice
TheatreArtLife: Life on the road. The subject matter alone evokes strong reactions. If you have ever spent a great length on the tour, you have surely heard other non-thespian types gasp in horror at the lifestyle. “I don’t know how you do it” is always a good one. “I could never live out of a suitcase” is another trusty response. “You have cooked on an electric burner in your hotel room?” Well, one can not live on late night bar food alone. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

How to Calculate Your Real Cost of Labor and Use That Number in Your Accounts
Remodeling | Accounting, Percent-Complete Accounting, Labor Burden, Operations: Many remodeling companies that employ their own in-house labor find a successful team of motivated and engaged craftsmen and women provide a significant advantage over companies that work with a primarily trade-based work force. One of the strongest arguments for in-house labor is the ability to better control schedules; another is the ability to develop a powerful team culture to provide an exceptional client experience. Develop this and the company can soar.
Why Hollywood's 'Inclusion Rider' Mania Could Hurt the Equality Cause
Hollywood Reporter: When Frances McDormand uttered the words "inclusion rider" in her acceptance speech at this year's Oscars, Google lit up with folks searching the term. Even the entertainment industry's savviest lawyers had to ask around for the exact meaning and derivation, although most could guess that it had something to do with ensuring diversity through contracts. Two weeks later, an increasing number of production companies are saying they will adopt inclusion riders, while WME co-CEO Ari Emanuel announced inclusion riders have become "imperative."
