Want success? Be prepared to fail

LinkedIn: “No pain, no gain” is a mantra for many people who exercise, motivating them to lose weight or get in shape.

Yet in other facets of our lives, we reflexively avoid pain, adversity and even uncertainty. A potential entrepreneur may hesitate to launch a startup because it could fail. A student may avoid law school for fear of the bar exam. Or a leader not open to new ideas could hinder a company’s ability to capitalize on opportunities.

I have not related to an article more than this one. I work under this mantra of “no pain, no gain” and embrace a constant state of learning and trying new things, many times they fail. However, the success that comes out of it is always more rewarding and more wise. In perfect representation, I have been working on this constant experimental state within my current model building project. I have worked on troubleshooting the same area, testing new and different rigging styles to try and compensate and shape the not-so-simple model I find best represents the project. I know nothing is impossible if you work hard enough but it takes effort and patience. Failure creates the best lessons and build a tough skin so you can fight the hardest battles, which are ever so common in our industry. Nothing within theatre is served on a silver spoon. The key is to take the challenges and continue forwards. Don’t let the ideas of failure hold you back. Even if they are rough. Stick with the plan, keep moving forward, embrace and learn from your failures, and the results you want will come out.
