I completely understand why the actress would resign from the role. I have also read other articles with different actors and actresses and many have gotten the same backlash like Johansson. I think the topic is very hard to cover on and as an actor portraying a person who is transgender is a difficult task to do due to many people who still struggle with accepting transgender people. I also believe Johansson decision from backing down from the role publicly was right for her to do, especially with her giving her admiration towards the LGBTQ community and her respecting their decision of her backing down from the role. Now moving on to the movie and casting a new person I think it would be great to see a person who is transgender play the role and see how they take on the character from their perspective.
