Ready or not, the world’s first VR water slide is here

The Verge: Virtual reality and water slides seem like things that shouldn’t mix. One is a still nascent technology that generally tends to rely on delicate and sensitive electronic equipment, and the other is a form of entertainment that largely involves sliding fast in an enclosed space filled with water — things which generally tend to have harmful effects on delicate and sensitive electronic equipment.

Personally, I think VR is an expanding technology that will continue to become more prevalent throughout the entertainment industry. VR enhances our perception of what is happening in an attraction, whether or not it is a stage or amusement park ride. It has the ability to broaden the level of immersion in a show and further convey the idea that one is in a different world, a different, time, or a different place. This technology is already spreading the theme park sector of the industry at Galaxy Erding, in Germany. One aspect of this particular attraction that makes it different from most typical VR applications it that it fully submersible as it is on a water ride. It also has the ability to analyze exactly where riders are using a ultrasound chip making for an experience that is truly amazing. I think this technology needs to and will begin to make its way into theater as it will further enhance the action of stage and bring the industry up to date with 21st century entertainment technology.
