It’s Who You Know” But It’s Not - It’s Who Knows You.
SoundGirls.org: I never really followed the “traditional” path to get to where I am today. The world of audio has led me in all kinds of different directions. And it made me a better engineer because of it.
I didn’t start out knowing I wanted to be an audio engineer. In fact, I had no clue what I wanted to do. I went to college after high school because I have Dominican parents, and as the child of immigrants, there’s tons of pressure to do better and take full advantage of the opportunities this country has to offer.

'Secret Shop' a Job Before Your Interview
lifehacker.com: Perhaps the most frightening thing about starting a new job is not knowing whether you made the right decision. You could, for example, be baited and switched by an employer who lured you into a position with false promises, or suddenly feel pangs of buyer’s remorse once you realize that your old job offered a friendlier atmosphere than your new one.

The professional trait no career adviser ever mentions: generosity
www.fastcompany.com: Nobody likes being sold to. In a way, you feel violated, like the person plugging their product during an otherwise normal conversation is invading your personal space.
The problem, of course, is we’re all, on some level, salespeople. Whether you’re selling your business, pitching your book, or angling yourself as a potential employee, sales are something you just have to do.

How to Network So You'll Get Way Ahead in Your Professional Life
www.lifehack.org: Networking has been around for a very long time. From the early days of the Royal Society in the late 1600s when gentlemen gathered together to share scientific discoveries and make connections with like-minded people, to today where people connect to advance careers and share knowledge and career advice. It has been a way for humans to learn, discover and advance for hundreds of years.
3 significant resume mistakes to avoid
www.fastcompany.com: There’s some career advice you’ll hear over and over again–one of which is that recruiters will throw out your resume in the trash the moment they catch a typo or a spelling mistake.
But as somebody who has worked in recruitment for many years, I can tell you that this isn’t the case. I’m not saying that it’s okay to litter your resume with spelling errors, but there are much more important things you should be thinking about when writing your resume.

Here's What Hiring Managers Actually Care About
lifehacker.com: You can’t jump into the mind of the person sitting across from you in an interview and know exactly what they’re looking for. But there are, fortunately, some basic qualities most hiring managers think are pretty important across the board.

Don't make these 3 mistakes with your LinkedIn profile
www.fastcompany.com: If a picture is worth a thousand words, your LinkedIn profile picture is worth a lot.
Sure, you may have invested a lot of time capturing job descriptions, collecting solid recommendations, and identified tangible (and impressive) professional achievements. Those things are all critical and definitely showcase your professional track record. However, your profile photo also contributes to the first impression you make on a potential employer, recruiter, investor, or partner.

The first design portfolio that’s ever made me laugh
www.fastcompany.com: These days, most design portfolios have an air of sameness to them–like clone-stamp copies of one another. It’s something Argentinian designer and illustrator Mariano Pascual wanted to change.
Here’s what most people get wrong about “passion”
www.fastcompany.com: Yes, it’s cliché. But while we all seem to get that marriage requires more than a little love and affection, there’s still this pervasive myth that passion is the secret key to your career.
Don’t get me wrong. Passion counts for a lot, especially if you’re tasked with convincing someone to give you a shot.

What Recruiters Are Really Thinking In These 8 Scenarios
www.fastcompany.com: For many job seekers, it can be confusing and downright frustrating to try to understand what a recruiter is thinking when he or she reviews a resume, or is evaluating a candidate post-interview. Most recruiters would like to speak with everyone personally, but some of their job postings have so many people applying that they often have to rely on form letters.

These Nine Email Mistakes Could Cost You The Job

How to Counteract the 'What Else' Mindset
lifehacker.com: For many of us, checking boxes on a to-do list is a never ending cycle, the key way we measure our productivity and self-worth. And we’re constantly adding new things before we’ve checked off the old.

How to read blueprints
Pro Construction Guide: Whether you’re a general contractor, a sub-contractor or a tradesman, knowing how to read blueprints (also called construction drawings and plans) is critical.
As buildings and the systems within them have become increasingly complex, so have the two-dimensional drawings that describe all the details of the project. From a simple residence to a large commercial building project, the same basic drawings and related information are required in order to obtain permits, estimate costs, establish a construction schedule, and ultimately construct the project.
