Should You Include Your Mailing Address On Your Resume?

lifehacker.com: Most every resume template includes a spot for your home address, but do you really need to include it? If you’re a privacy hawk, you might chafe at doing so, and not only because prospective employers are highly unlikely to choose to contact you via snail mail: Including your address on something as public as a CV might introduce a degree of socioeconomic bias into the recruiting/hiring process, potentially harming your chances at landing a new gig.

Rigging in a Music Performance Studio

ASTC: Whenever a theatre consultant collaborates with an architect and a user to design a venue, one of the questions that quickly arises is: How will this venue be used? This question applies to the types of performances the venue needs to host, but just as critically to the frequency with which the intended performances take place, the level of production value, and the amount of production staff that may or may not be available to change over the venue between events.

By looking closer at the digital divide and comparing counties’ internet access to their arts vibrancy, as measured by SMU DataArts, this article will look at the United States’ digital divide and how it impacts opportunities for arts participation.

David Treadwell: MSMT and the Fulton Theatre: A win-win collaboration

Portland Press Herald: To succeed in musical theater, one must be able to sing, dance and act. Not many such performers also possess the ability to direct. And even fewer people who can sing, dance, act, and direct also have the leadership skills to oversee a superb regional theater. And how many among that rare breed possess the courage, stamina, resiliency and wisdom to guide a theater through a pandemic, a challenge for which there is no playbook, no script?

‘Twilight: Gods’ reviews: Lyric Opera delivers a sensational drive-through Wagner in underground garage

Chicago Sun-Times: Parking garages are often dingy, dank, and, well, a little forbidding — in other words, the perfect, if totally unlikely setting for a radical reimagining of “Götterdämmerung.” The dark, ultimately redemptive work culminates Richard Wagner’s mythic 19th-century opera cycle, “Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung).”

The Uncomfortable Truth

ARTS Blog: I don’t know which upset people more—the words “white, Western, Eurocentric” to describe legacy organizations as they were when ASC was founded, or a visual showing how, from 1991 to 2020 and due to ASC’s inequitable grant making practices, nine institutions each received more in operating support than all ALAANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, Native American) organizations combined.

Ridgid 18V Brushless Combo Kit Review

Tool Box Buzz: When we recently got to test the Ridgid 18V Brushless combo kit on the job site we had a lot of positive takeaways and a few feedback items. The timing was great since we were in the middle of a large residential remodel project. We use the 4-piece 18V kit to cut trim and drywall, drive countless screws into stud framing, and drill ample electrical pass through holes among other tasks.

Learning New Skills

SoundGirls.org: So I learnt a new skill. Or rather, I improved a skill I haven’t used since university. I learnt it from a man called John and he was, in my opinion, the best tutor we had. He had a PhD and taught us about the avant-garde world of music and presented us with new ideas. “Will a tree make a sound if it falls in the forest if no one is there to hear it?” and other fundamentals of sound and sonic art.

SoundGirls.org: An audio rider is essential to every gig. There can be a lot of confusion over what it should entail and how best to present the information, so here is how to make a clear, concise rider and the pitfalls to avoid. Much of this might seem obvious, but even people on arena tours make some of these mistakes. If you already know everything in this post, share it with your musician friends who don’t have an engineer yet so they can make great riders too.

An experiment: Attending a CounterPulse show, first online, then in person

Datebook: In July, the dance and performance art presenter CounterPulse asked its audiences what their attendance desires and safety preferences were, thinking it might be able to safely host indoor events again at its Tenderloin venue by fall. “This survey told us we should pump the brakes in reopening,” recalls Justin Ebrahemi, the company’s director of communications and advancement. “A lot of people were not comfortable being in a full house again or waiting in line to purchase a ticket.”

Divestment and Dissent – Artists Speak Out on Steppenwolf Theatre

rescripted.org: Steppenwolf has had internal complaints about equity from their staff of color for years, which began to accelerate after The Great Leap when Deanna Myers’ complaints of harassment on the job went viral on social media. In the past year they have struggled to retain their staff of color for a variety of reasons, many having to do with inhospitable job environments, under-resourced shows, and pay inequity. Recently, two artists affiliated with the theatre have spoken to their journeys of navigating and negotiating with this institution. This article includes all three statements from these artists including the essay published by Isaac Gomez just today.

my older brother told me a story once

by isaac gómez | Apr, 2021 | Medium: I could say a lot about each of these institutions, but I won’t. For the context of this prayer, all you need to know is that each of these companies took a piece of my spirit that I’ve been trying to get back. My healing is a very private process. I don’t need anyone to bear witness. I don’t need anyone cancelled or fired or dragged through the mud. Public shaming does nothing for me. It doesn’t heal me, which is all I want.

DEWALT XR Reciprocating Saw DCS368 Review

What Vaccines Mean for Ballet Companies

Pointe: As the coronavirus pandemic grinds into its second year, the toll on ballet companies—and dancers—has been steep. How long before dancers can rehearse and perform as they once did? Like most things, the return to normal for ballet seems to hinge on vaccinations. Just over 22 percent of people in the U.S. are now vaccinated, a way from the estimated 70 to 85 percent experts believe can bring back something similar to pre-pandemic life.

Disney Imagineering’s “Project Kiwi” Bears Groot

Hackaday: Some days, we might be forgiven for believing Boston Dynamics has cornered the market on walking robots. They (and other players) are making incredible progress in their field, but three years ago Disney, trying to create autonomous, free-walking robotic actors for some of their more diminutive film characters, found none of the existing platforms were appropriate.

Oscars Diversity: Historic Wins Leap Over Low Bar Set By Hollywood

www.forbes.com: Like every single other awards ceremony in the past year, the 93rd annual Academy Awards looked a little different — but thank goodness it didn’t take place entirely on Zoom. We may have reached a point in the pandemic when virtual acceptance speeches have become awkward or challenged by a bad wifi connection. Nonetheless, like every ceremony since 2016’s great #OscarsSoWhite movement launched by April Reign, one of the main buzzwords of the night was diversity.

Scott Rudin, As Told by His Assistants

www.vulture.com: Like Harvey Weinstein before him, Scott Rudin has been called an “open secret” throughout the entertainment industry. For decades, the megaproducer — one of only 16 people to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony — has held a reputation as one of the worst bosses ever to work in Hollywood. Still, the press, and the industry itself, has often presented his abusive behavior — throwing computers, insults, and tantrums at his assistants — as the idiosyncratic by-product of an eccentric man.

Retired Hollywood workers: Industry isn’t diversifying as fast as it should be over past 50 years

www.kcrw.com/news: The Oscars are this Sunday, and the acting categories are showing diversity efforts by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. For people working “below the line” — those involved in daily pre-production, production, and post-production work — studios agreed to diversify their workforce and created a minority training program in 1969. It happened after the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recommended the Justice Department file a discrimination suit.

During the course of his career, he earned nine Tony Award nominations, winning Best Play for 1987 for Fences. Additionally, he earned a Pulitzer Prize in 1987 for Fences and then again in 1990 for The Piano Lesson.
