While I have had my beef with robots and AI type technology in the comment section of this blog before, I have to admit that I have a wild fascination and love for animatronics. I think that this fascination came from my love of Star Wars droids when I was a kid – I just think that having a little technological companion would be so neat! I remember fiddling with basic electronics and mindstorms Lego kits to try and make my own R2 inspired robot when I was in middle school. Honestly, looking back, that is probably one of the first props sort of things I got excited about. This animatronic Groot is absolutely adorable and moves so scarily organically. I do share some of the same concerns that this article mentions about having a robot like this walking freely amongst park patrons. I think that perhaps if the animatronic had a human companion and babysitter or sort - like it Starlord walked around with Groot - that could work as a safeguard from patrons kicking over sweet little Groot. I wonder what the outer skin of Groot is made of, and how that skin is attached to the mechanism beneath it?
