A closer look at Cirque du Soleil’s restart in Las Vegas

www.cirquefascination.com: Cirque du Soleil announced last week that its two longest running Las Vegas Strip shows will be the Canadian company’s first resident productions to return their respective stages. “Mystére,” originally opened in 1993, will come alive again at Treasure Island on June 28, while “O” at Bellagio, which first arrived in 1998, reopens on July 1.

I am soooooooo happy! I read that Cirque was filing for bankruptcy and that the shows in Vegas were permanently closed so still is wonderful news. like the article said, "People see the openings of ‘Mystére’ and ‘O’ as a clear signal to the world that Cirque du Soleil is back.” The performers have been keeping in shape, but they need a few months to practice their stnts. I was shocked when the article said that they would be returning to full capacity without social distancing. I think that because of the vaccine, people are hopeful that we can gather again. I hope to be able to go to Las Vegas and see these shows again

It is really exciting to see that Cirque du Soleil is beginning their reopen what was certainly an extremely challenging time for the company. The last thing I had heard about Cirque was that they were filing for bankruptcy and the future was uncertain. I am glad to see that they will be able to reopen over the summer, and it seems that the company is optimistic about their gradual reopening. It will be interesting to see how much time the performers need to get back to the level of performance they were at prior to the pandemic; and while they may have all been staying in shape throughout the past year, it will still take time to rebuild their performance level skills. I would imagine for many of these performers this is the longest they have gone since they began their training without performing, and certainly there will have to be some type of learning curve for getting back to the high-level of performance that they are known for.

I am so glad to hear about Cirque du Soleil opening back up! I feel like I remember hearing about them struggling and potentially declaring bankruptcy in the early months of the pandemic– I am so happy to hear that they are going to try and get shows back up and running soon. Though, I am surprised that there are no social distancing measures in place for the audience? I simply do not think I would feel comfortable going to a show like that, even masked and vaccinated. There would be way too many people around. But, I suppose vaccinations will help decrease the risk of an outbreak & rapid testing could help as well if they implement that. Though it will be a few months before they are close to reopening due to the performers needing time to train and practice after so long of no shows, I look forward to hearing more and maybe even seeing a show!

While I have expectantly and excitedly been awaiting the return of Cirque it does worry me that their planned return kind of pretends Covid doesn't exist. I would also like to hope that by end of June early July that it'll be safe enough to attend events like this potentially masked but not distanced but banking on it for their reopen sounds risky. I simply do not trust the American populace to act properly between now and then to ensure this is a safe reopening. The last thing Cirque needs right now is to spend money bringing back their shows and see them canceled again due to non-compliance with covid regulations that end up still being in place even months from now. I applaud their movement towards progress but I caution them on their approach. Hopefully, all goes well and I get the chance to finally go to Vegas and see O which has been a long-time dream of mine.

I am so excited for Cirque's return. My dream job is working for Cirque du Soleil, and I have been worried throughout this entire pandemic that I wouldn't get the opportunity to live that dream. I am worried about their lack of covid protocols when it comes to the audience, but I am glad they are keeping the cast and crew safe with testing and vaccinations. I have been keeping up with a lot of performers and crew from Cirque over the past year, and they were really hit hard. After filing for bankruptcy and letting go huge numbers of employees, my heart really goes out for them. I wonder what their plan is for their touring shows, and when they will be able to safely reopen those too. (Hopefully it's by the time I graduate)
