Exploring Addiction Through Immersive Theatre
Theatre Development Fund – TDF: Inspired by Irvine Welsh's eponymous novel about a motley crew of young drug users wreaking havoc in '80s Edinburgh, Trainspotting Live lands stateside at Roy Arias Stages after years of touring the U.K. and beyond. Although this version blends elements from the book, Harry Gibson's original stage adaptation and the 1996 film that launched Ewan McGregor's career, it feels entirely fresh due to its immersive, no-holds-barred nature.

I completely understand why the artistic team chose to have an immersive theatre experience with this show. I saw a few years ago Romeo and Juliet with this immersive theatre approach and it gave the show a more connected experience where I could see the actors up close and be immersed in the show rather than just watching it from my seat. I also got the chance to see the show again but this time with a classic theatre approach and comparing the two times I saw the show I preferred the immersive approach because of that connection I had watching it the first time. Especially with this show topic that contains a human component that anyone can recognize and understand better helps the audience to story connection by making the experience immersive.
