As my interest in corporate and construction project management increases, I have found myself primarily learning the differences between live event project management and everybody else. I love reading articles like this because the lessons can be applied across disciplines, like managing risk. Risk management can be a very formal process for calculating likelihood of something happening, but it is also something that is constantly done inadvertently in live events. Due to the set in stone nature of theatrical deadlines, opening night, every decision that is made has to take into account the deadline and knowing that can make some decisions very challenging to make. I think communicating goals and responsibilities is one of the most effective forms of management because it gives people specific tasks to focus on. Finally, communicating goals can also help give people a stake in the project, this can be a key factor for motivating a team of people to hit the deadline you are aiming for.
