TREND ALERT: Is the new model for musical revivals on Broadway NOT to be on Broadway?

The Producer's Perspective: This past season there were only two musical revivals on Broadway. And one of the duo was produced by a non-profit.

And next season, I only see one comin’ . . .

Why the sudden lack? Are we running out of musicals to revive?

I think that it’s very exciting to see another Little Shop of Horrors revival and a very interesting choice that they are off-broadway this time. I wonder if the production is more or less likely to make back their investment since it is being staged in a much smaller theater that has less opportunity to sell tickets. A plus for this is that they are probably more likely to sell out since they don’t need to sell as many tickets to accomplish this. I wonder if the show does well if they could wind up transferring to broadway as this is not an uncommon thing to happen. One thing that surprises me about the production is that they are getting some pretty big stars in the show even though it is off-broadway. This is what makes me think that it could wind up transferring to the broadway.

Revival's on Broadway is are important in my opinion. They show a new rendition of a classic musical. This experience is really good for multiple reasons. To begin, the modern interpretation of older classics. In addition, it is also important becuase of the necessary aspect of giving newer theatre goers a similar experience to older theatergoers who saw the show. The article does bring up a decent amount of interesting points. That they should not be on Broadway at all. And while I see the value in one time only, I think there is more value in repeating, if it is of high enough value to be on Broadway.
