Building Theatrical Bridges in Queer and Trans Ohio

HowlRound Theatre Commons: On my commute to teach, amidst the soybean fields and crystalline ponds of Ohio I see a slew of political signs. “Trump save America” appears with a photo of the President surviving an assassination attempt. “Protect life” hovers on plywood in hand-painted red and blue letters. I drive from my queer suburb of Cleveland (rumored to have made it into Trivial Pursuit in the eighties as the United States city with the highest per capita rate of same-sex couples) to Oberlin College (one of the first racially integrated and gender inclusive institutions in the country).
