Universal Celestial Goodnight Debuts at Epic Universe
Inside Universal: Universal Orlando has officially debuted Universal Celestial Goodnight, the new nighttime spectacular that caps off each evening at Epic Universe.
The new show, presented nightly at park close, features nearly 600 lighting fixtures, over 350 fountains, and seven million LED lights. These elements come together to celebrate each of Epic Universe’s worlds before culminating with a fireworks finale.

I think nighttime spectaculars at theme parks are often at their best when they align with the story and theme of the park as well as creating a spectacle. The theming of Epic Universe gives Universal a lot of room to work with creating the spectacle while still fitting the theme of the park. I find the fixture count mentioned in the article somewhat mind boggling coming from a theatrical background. It's hard to imagine using 600 lighting fixtures for a single show. However, theme parks are uniquely suited for such a task due to the scale of the venue. I don't know if it is the case at Epic Universe I believe that the lights used in the nighttime spectacular often have other purposes for shows during the day. While the focus is often on fixtures and design in lighting I've always found the steady progression in lighting control just as interesting. Even if you had the budget to put on a show like this in the 80s you would struggle to find the hardware to control 600 fixtures and seven million LEDs simultaneously. While I'd imagine that even in modern day this show requires custom control hardware to manage this amount of fixtures, the fact that it's possible at all shows how far the industry has come.
