Public media survives first year since Congress and Trump killed funding
NPR: A year ago, President Trump drove a conservative backlash against NPR and PBS straight to Capitol Hill, where Congress stripped public radio and television stations of nearly all federal funding. When his signature turned that bill into law, Trump ended nearly six decades of bipartisan support for funding public media.

I believe that democracy can only work with an informed populace. While social media has undoubtably changed the landscape of how the average person finds news I believe that public media plays an important role in getting information to the public. From the rage giving mentioned in the article it seems clear that the public is supportive of public media and as such the funding for public media programs should be restored. The knowledge that public broadcasting gives the public through live news coverage, cultural, and educational broadcasts is well worth the less than 2 dollars per taxpayer per year that it previously costed. In my opinion such as essential service should not be forced to rely on donations to stay afloat. Social media is a powerful tool and when used as a supplement to traditional media can give a better understanding of current events. But social media cannot replace traditional media entirely. What is our tax money for if not to better our country?
