It’s really interesting to see what is one the cutting edge of new lighting technology. Not only is the entirety of LDI a showcase of the newest and best parts of event lighting and media, but I imagine these awards are a sort of hallmark of revolutionary technology. It’s wonderful that this part of our industry gets to be able to come together and share ideas in this way. In an increasingly digital world, it can be easy to assume social media and other communications platforms can replace live conferences. But I think anyone who goes to conventions like USITT and LDI could speak to the value of a physical gathering. Not only is communication easier, but physical closeness and a shared experience creates a greater sense of bonding in the community as a whole. Being able to honor cool booths, light shows, or product debut’s is simply an added perk.

It is always interesting to see what comes out of conventions like USITT and LDI. This article largely just summarizes who won what award, and why. But some of these are very interesting. I am especially interested in the Willy Wonka, fully immersive presentation. The colors and presentation are especially interesting to see in the one picture presented by this article. I think that a lot of the images presented here are very interesting and very beautiful. Especially the image in regards to the most creative use of light, which is utterly spectacular. I also think that many of the technological advancements mentioned in this article are really very interesting. Though when or if these technology advancements are able to be used on a mass market scale, they would likely very expensive. I am excited and curious to see what ends up being viable in the real world, and what will just exist as an experiment, on in theory.

I have talked about Live Design International and over the course of a couple weeks, I have learned more about it. First off, I originally thought that it was called Light Design International because of my first impressions really only talked about lighting companies, now I know that aspects of media have a growing role in the convention. The entire booth concept seems really outstanding in this environment. As a showcase, Live Design International really figured out a way for the big and little companies to come together to showcase their abilities and their products. The prize for the best large booth is truly amazing. I was surprised when I saw how large it was and then began thinking about how much money these companies put into this convention. I think it would be an incredible experience to go to Live Design International one year and get to experience these amazing booths in person and network with companies from around the world.
