iRFR and aRFR Apps from ETC Benefit Behind the Scenes

Stage Directions: Continuing their unmatched generosity to entertainment technology professionals, ETC presented Behind the Scenes with a check today for $18,567.19, representing the most recent proceeds from the company’s iRFR and aRFR Radio Focus Remote applications. Since the launch of the iRFR in 2009, ETC’s mobile app sales have now generated over $350,000 in donations.

I have always liked ETC, and now I have just a couple more reasons to keep liking them. I know ETC strictly in the lighting world with their amazing fixtures to their adaptive light boards. I have had some experience with ETC’s application on mobile devices. As compared to having a full-size board in front of you, I think the app is a little more tricky to get a grip on, but once you do, it can be a very helpful tool. I usually use it in a focus setting where I can turn lights on and off without having to have a board operator or having to run back and forth to the control booth. Judging by this article, ETC does not take any of the revenue that the application makes and instead donates it to deserving individuals or businesses. I think this is such a refreshing thing to see in today’s world, so many companies are so thirsty for a wealth of profit that they end up hurting their own industry and it is clear that ETC does not want that to happen.

Ever since I had started doing lighting for my high school I have always worked with ETC consoles. During hang and focus with my mentor I would have to be on the lift while the ME would run back and forth from the console to the stage to tell me where to focus the light. About halfway through my sophomore year, I broke down and decided to buy iRFR - BTS which seemed no different than than the "LR" version. I now understand that the different versions are simply benefitting different charities. Now focus call goes by like a breeze!

I think that this is a clever method for fundraising and with the industry growing is sure to accumulate more and more funds. I also like the idea of a charity that supports production personnel that are in need of essentials such as medicine, housing, funeral expenses, and support for the immediate family too.
