It is always nice to hear about trans inclusion in theater, however I feel that as we bring more trans folk into the realm of theater, we must have more theatrical pieces for them to be in, written by trans people, and created by trans people. I am so happy to see such a high-scale production create this piece, and would love to see more. There are also many people who are gender-queer, and it is so uncommon to see anything beyond a space that’s created for queer people have trans characters in them, much less nonbinary folks. I would love to see more of that done on the big stage, and have it not be a play about their identity. I find a similar issue with being east-asian. The “representation” I get are often works that take place in the country (such as miss saigon), and mulan (where the whole premise is reliant on her race). I want to see people get deeper with characters who are not your average white american, and not have it be the whole premise. We exist, outside of just our identities.
