SAG-AFTRA Responds to Sarah Scott Sexual Harrassment Complaint

Variety: In a message posted on the SAG-AFTRA website on Monday, the union did not address Scott’s specific allegations, citing the confidentiality requirements of its procedures. Instead, SAG-AFTRA posted an extensive member advisory Monday about how those procedures work.

Overall this article screams one thing and one thing only: SAG-AFTRA is really just trying to cover its own behind. SAG-AFTRA acted cold and insincere in its statement. The way they talk about a harassment case is a “member-to-member complaint”, like Dylan keeps forgetting to put the toilet seat down and Suzie’s not happy, not someone's physical and emotional safety has been harmed and they are simply trying to call out the wicked on order to protect others and their future selves. One aspect I did support in the article that caught my eye was a mention of their hotline for supporting actors in sexual harassment situations. This is such a good idea! Not only does it provide immediate support from trained individuals, it allows there to be a clear record of the situation in real time. Hopefully inventions like these will be able to raise the small conviction rate of perpetrators of sexual assault. I commend them for taking this strategic step and I hope others will follow.
