I enjoyed learning that SpongeBob The Musical will soon be playing on a Royal Caribbean Cruise. I recently saw a social media post that claimed SpongeBob was robbed of winning Best Musical during the Tony Awards, so it was interesting to hear about a reboot-type production. The article left me with a lot of questions on how the design and creative team plans to scale down and adapt design elements from the production. The original production was deeply remembered for its eclectic nature of found objects at sea; I think this presents a unique opportunity for the design team to be able to play into these themes as the show actively plays at sea. The article also reminded me of what a challenge it must be to perform 8+ shows a week on a moving ship, having to live in small areas, and the idea of never being able to fully leave work. For both the actors and crew, that idea is definitely jarring.m
