As I browsed this article, I kept trying to guess what number 1 would be, but “Dream On” absolutely deserves the top spot; it is so rare for a male voice to reach and sustain a note that high, and the song scratches an itch in my brain. One thing I noticed as I read was that this list consisted almost entirely of older songs. Olivia Rodrigo’s “All American Bitch” was one of the few from 2010 and beyond. I expect this could be because artists aren’t as willing to truly “play” with their voices anymore. There are so many expectations for the essential elements of a great song, but songs with unique vocal elements are the ones that have withstood the test of time. I hope that more modern artists find the drive to incorporate these notes if they are able. It just makes music so fun when you can't predict what will happen next.
