Celebrating a celebrity wedding with all-white AV systems

www.avinteractive.com: Spotlight Sound is no stranger to providing sound and lighting for high-profile events. The diversity of our work takes us from stage set-ups in fields to the prestigious London Football Awards at the mid-century Camden Roundhouse. However, to get the call from Olly Murs’ wedding planners, Alice Wilkes Design, to partner with them for Essex’s wedding of the year to celebrate the marriage of Olly Murs and his partner Amelia Tank. The team agreed it was a particular highlight.

This article provides an interesting perspective on the unique challenges and situations in the world of corporate AV. Corporate work and architecture installation both tend to care a lot about what fixtures look like and how well they are hidden. This is the reason that many manufacturers will make equipment in white or other colors, even though we often want it black for theatrical use. Events can be a great source of income for production companies because large corporations and wealthy individuals have the money to throw around for events like this. That being said, these kinds of clients generally have very high expectations which need to be met.
I also noted the challenge in this particular situation of only being able to load equipment over a tidal causeway. This is an example of a production challenge that is not insurmountable but requires careful planning on the part of the production management department in order to ensure that it does not cause significant problems during load in, the show, or strike.

As someone who has worked a couple of times with light design it is interesting to see how it is used in the real world outside of just theatrical use. This article shows how different people and different events are going to be looking for many different features of AV. At the end of the article there are a couple of pictures of the wedding with all of the AV aspects captured. It is important to see how the work that people might be doing in theatre can be brought out to do something out of the ordinary. Working for different clients can make you a better person and more experienced. The client field for this type of interest is extremely high end and at some points very knowing of what they want so working for them with this type of work is helpful to know how to shape your own portfolio.

After reading this article I can really appreciate the work it takes to create any kind of production. Whether it is theater or someone's real life, there are so many steps and challenges when it comes to putting something meaningful together. Lighting design can truly transform a space, or in this case this crazy wedding venue. It also makes me think of the importance of this ceremony to some people. I, do not think I would ever go all out for a wedding, but to some people– it is a ride of passage. Some people are searching for someone their whole lives and a wedding is a time to celebrate and rejoice, which is why these technical elements mean so much. Not only for aesthetic purposes but for the significance of the event itself. I think it is very cool how someone's dream vision can come to life in this way.
