Theatre is clearly on the up and up for the Holidays, which I feel like it always is. There is a sense of family, childhood and positivity associated with the time of the year that feels nostalgic for so many. I think that is what brings the arts reinvigoration at this time. You have so many classic pieces of theatre like White Christmas, A Christmas Carol and Christmas Story that are revived every year and the same people are patrons year after year. What I find interesting is that the same actors chose to play the same roles on repeat, and I think that is a type of nostalgia and tradition for them as well. This article is more about music that it is theatre and the music history and culture run deep in the veins of Chicago. It has shaped the city, especially the presence of blues music in the holiday hymns that we have grown accustomed to. Seeing the resurgence of holiday music and cheer in a city that I love warms my heart.
