Robe shines bright for Paramore Tour
LightSoundJournal.com: Popular rock band Paramore are engaged in a world tour supporting their acclaimed sixth studio album, This is Why, which dropped in February. The live show features an eye-catching and interesting stage and lighting production design crafted by Sooner Routhier of Sooner Rae Creative and Trevor Ahlstrand of Ahlstrand Productions.

Lights for touring concert productions fascinate me as they require the same if not more spectacle than permanent theatrical productions but also must have the capability to move around locations so easily. I find it so refreshing how open Paramore has been about their touring process. So often, it is impossible to find out any information about the tech behind concerts in attempts to protect the “magic” of a show. As someone who wants to work in concert lighting, it can be frustrating when this information is hidden as it prevents education in the field. One facet of Robe’s discussion I found interesting was the use of robospots in the design. While I do not understand how this technology works, they are so much crisper than a follow-spot operator or programmed mover (especially since concert staging is rarely identical every night). Hopefully, lightsoundjournal.com will do more articles on this as I found it to be a very fascinating read!
