In the wake of a new study, the city declares Theater Season

Chicago Reader: Fall is traditionally the start of the performing arts season in Chicago (and elsewhere), but in the wake of so many stories about the precarious state of theater companies around the city and the nation, it feels even more important to highlight the work happening onstage right now. Last week, Mayor Brandon Johnson, Choose Chicago, and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) announced the launch of Theater Season, a new campaign to promote local theaters in partnership with the League of Chicago Theatres.

I really hope that this new promotional campaign does encourage more people to go see and engage with the Chicago performing arts scene. It is also great to see that Chicago Dancers United exists to help dancers in Chicago. As the article points out, dancing is typically an injury ridden career path so it is good that there is an organization and a fund to help independent dancers survive. I was never a dancer or close with anyone in the Chicago dance scene, so I was never aware of any of these organizations. The Chicago Dance History Project is also very neat; especially for performing arts such as theatre or dance, it is important to make an effort to document and archive.
