I have not yet used a Hercules hammer drill, but I have been seeing recently that they have been claiming the new drill is comparable to the Milwaukee brand. This article did help me understand what Harbor Freight means by that, in that it means it is just a similar product when compared to the Milwaukee and has a lower price tag. While I did not understand that is what comparable meant in this case, it doesn't seem that hard to make something with a lower price tag than Milwaukee; the real challenge would be making something more expensive. After seeing the results of the tests after the specifications of both drills, I assume they are relying on the confusion of the term comparable or compare to (like the confusion I had) in order to try and sell a worse drill. It performed worse in all areas, granted some less than others, but was markedly worse in terms of max torque. I do not think everything harbor freight makes is inherently bad, as some "throw away" tools like chisels and screwdrivers can be bought for cheap and you never have to worry about taking care of them. I do see how this drill could be useful if someone needed a cheap drill and wasn't doing very intense work with it, but marketing it against Milwaukee feels like a cheap ruse to use the quality of a large brand to trick people who won't know better into wasting (maybe not the best word) their money on this.
