Exclusive: How THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW Will Spotlight Broadway After Moving to New York City

www.broadwayworld.com: Following four seasons in Los Angeles, CA, Clarkson has brought her daytime talkshow to the Big Apple, officially kicking off season five in its new Rockefeller Center studio. "To be in New York City and 30 Rock, the media mecca of the world and with an audience of 200 people, there's an energy that is palpable. We love it," says showrunner Alex Duda, who has been with the show since season one.

This is so exciting! As someone who already watched the kelly clarkson show and is a big fan this article made me so happy. I had no idea the show was relocating to New York but I think from the sounds of it it is going to open so many doors for opportunity. This is just another way we can get more exposure for the theater community and get more people involved and in my eyes that is always positive. I love the idea of sending an audience member to the show the night before, my hope would be that the review from said audience member would stay authentic and unscripted. I think sometimes when I read things like that I get my hopes up and then when I see the execution I am usually let down because it doesn't feel authentic. However, from my experience watching the show and what I have seen so far I think that this will be executed in a really beautiful way. I hope that Kelly takes a step onto the Broadway stage, and I hope this opens the door to more opportunities to see more theater.

This article addresses a world that I am not generally interested in, but for some reason, I ended up clicking on it. I have never been a person to watch a lot of live TV or talk shows, but I do think that it is interesting how this particular talk show is attempting to tie itself to Broadway. This is an example of how different fields in the entertainment industry can provide exposure for each other and help promote each other. A person who can tie together the worlds of different forms of art can have a positive effect on both fields. People who love talk shows might be motivated to come to see a Broadway show based on a good review or clip in a talk show. A person who is normally only interested in live theater might be interested in a talk show when they see a clip of it with a topic they are interested in, namely a piece of a live performance that they have been meaning to see.

Moving from LA to New York City seems like a huge jump. The first thing my mind went to was the fact that many people probably lost their jobs because of the show moving. However, I don’t have any experience in television so it could be that the next talk show to take the Kelly Clarkson Show’s place within the LA studio was their next gig, but it still makes me wonder. But overall, the move makes a lot of sense for the show. Kelly is so big in the music industry, and she’s got a connection with Broadway that connects pop music to Broadway music. Learning that she is writing a musical also makes the move more logical, and makes me think she may be announcing its premiere soon. It is sad that she moved away from LA though, as I know LA wants to keep up its live theater scene as well as TV and film. Taking her show to New York means LA loses out on that opportunity.
