Disneyland Galaxies Edge is showing off new BD-style roaming droids

Boing Boing: Galaxies Edge is Disneyland (and another park in Florida's) Star Wars land, where ticketholders can meet Star Wars characters who roam around, adding to the immersion. First Order troopers, Boba Fett, Fennic Shand, and Chewbacca are regulars, along with the Kylo guy and his force dyad pal Rey.

Here I am again, reading another Disney related article! Although I haven’t watched any star wars film yet(I’M SORRY), I know a lot about what goes on, and the characters in it, because I’ve seen and heard so many things about it. I always love seeing the little puppets and robots around Disney, and it always has an element of surprise when I see them. It add so much to the fantasy that we’re all experiencing, even if we know it’s fake. I really like seeing how inconspicuous some of the puppeteers/controllers are, or how well they mic in with the character they’re playing, like what they did with Miguel from Coco, or what Universal Studios did with their dinosaur puppets. I’m also really looking forward to seeing what Disney can do to improve the controls to make them more hidden, and make the experience even better than it already is.

This is so cool! I was actually just in Florida Disney World very recently for a senior trip. I visited the Starwars area with my friend and there was definitely a lack of droids. Sure there were some within rides and other places but other than that they were quite sparse. If you watch any star wars movie you will see an incredibly large amount of different droids, and I think that was one of the main things missing in the ambiance of this park. It would be really cool if there were free roaming droids walking around the park, but granted that requires a lot of work and a human counterpart to be with them in case of people messing with them, or them just breaking in an inconvenient spot. I am really excited to see how they move forward on this and I hope that they continue to post updates and show how things function.
