IATSE Broadcast Leaders Share Industry Insights with Future Technicians

IATSE: Many veteran technicians might look back on their careers and wonder how things may have been different they had an opportunity to speak to professionals and ask questions before ever entering the industry. For Local 119, an invitation to guide the next generation brought into perspective the unique opportunity for broadcast technicians in Northern California and how Local 119 is poised to guide the future into the industry and the Union.

I think that this is such a great opportunity and resource, and it makes me super happy to see unions being able to work with industry professionals like this to provide information to industry workers or people interested in joining the industry. I also think it is awesome that they did a broadcast with San Francisco State University to talk to students interested in the broadcast industry. It was so important for higher ups such as President Darin Stephens to share their experiences and knowledge as it shows how much they cared about the future of the industry and the people who would be joining it. It is a lot more impactful, and the transparency shows the security of unions to students. Laying out the career paths and industry standards provides a good foundation for people who may be unfamiliar. I feel that CMU does a pretty good job of this.
