I have a love-hate relationship with haunted houses and ghost tours as I am easily spooked. I enjoy having a fun time with friends and family, and I really enjoy halloween and the concept of everything being scary, but I also do not enjoy actually being afraid. I have been through a few haunted houses that I have enjoyed but I have also been through some that have sent me into panic attacks. Though, maybe I will try a few listed in this article with some of my friends as a fun activity and I’ll have an enjoyable experience. I do, though very much enjoy ghost tours and hopefully will find some around Pittsburgh to do this month, possibly with my dad as he will be here for family weekend. The Phantom Fall fest also sounds incredibly fun but I am not sure if I will be able to attend.

I have never actually been to a haunted house, but I am very interested in trying it! I had never thought of haunted houses being a type of theatre, but this article makes it clear that they really are. There are so many aspects that these houses share with a theatre production, it can really be seen as an immersive show. Every part of the production is essential to the storytelling of the house. I thought it was really interesting that every house seemed to have its own sort of plot. For example the haunted house that takes place in a historic funeral home was really cool and can lend itself to its specific story. The lighting, sound, set and props contributed so much to the atmosphere of the experience and all brought out emotional responses in the audience. Without these effects, this immersive show would not be as impactful or as scary. Furthermore, there are even actors that make the experience complete.

This article is a gold mine. My suitemates and I have a list of activities that we can attend during the next month or so and these have to go on the list. I am a halloween lover and thoroughly enjoy the haunted houses and decor that happen each season. It is really cool once you think about the tech behind each piece and how it could have been made. My high school made haunted house and i was a scare actor in it so I am intimately familiar with the details of a very basic haunted house. I had so much fun doing it and it was honestly fairly high quality, we changed the lighting, had sound playing, many props and additional set pieces. I am really excited because I think CMU has some halloween experiences on campus and I am excited to see what we have to offer. I would love to work for a haunted house in the future and design one.

While I’ve never actually been to a haunted house, I was involved as a sound and lighting designer and technician for a haunted house my high school put up, and I’ve always wanted to go to one, and this article gave me so many local options! I’ve always been someone that is easily spooked, and never really wanted to go to haunted houses, but I think I’ll go to one with friends this year, just to have some fun. I really look forward to experiencing one, and seeing all the theatrical elements play out, as well as how the area is transformed to become the haunted house. I really want to participate in halloween events, as previously, I haven’t been much involved in halloween events, as my high school and the city I was in wasn’t really halloween heavy and the only event we had was a costume thing and various trick or trick locations in certain neighborhoods and compounds.

Personally, I HATE haunted houses, BUT I love horror movies. Before I came to Pittsburgh I swore that I would never go into a haunted house, and that still stands. Except for the fact that my friends back home want to book haunted house tickets. Now, another friend in the group is just like me and absolutely hates them, so he goes, then I’ll go. But, I do wish that they were down in Pittsburgh because some of the haunted houses on this list sound SO COOL. Plus, it looks as though the prices of tickets are relatively cheap, and they aren’t all that far from campus. I did notice that there was a haunted tour of Pittsburgh, and that is absolutely awesome and I would be totally down for that as I would love to get to know this city more! We will be living here for the next 4 years, so I would love to get used to it!

I love things like haunted houses and halloween events that are actually meant to scare you, so this article caught my eye. I have been seeing ads on every social media platform I use for the first attraction that this paper talks about, ScareHouse. The production value looks really good and the tickets are pretty cheap so I definitely think that I will go when I have the time. I also think that I would like to go to Hundred Acres Manor because, just like ScareHouse, the production value seems top tier and the tickets are relatively cheap. I think Hundred Acres is really good for bringing a large group of friends. I am not really into ghost tours because, atleast the ones I have been on in the past, they are never as immersive as I would like them to be. They don't keep you on your toes or actually inspire are fear.

I am not often one for horror, though I have been to a couple haunted houses, and have done a walking ghost tour which was super fun! It’s so interesting how the ideas of these events came about originally, I wonder who was first intrigued by the idea of scaring people for entertainment - though I guess it probably started with telling ghost stories or some creepy tales. There is something that intrigues us (or most of us) about the idea of something a bit scary, and I wonder why. I never have been interested in horror films or being afraid in that manner, however haunted houses/ghost tours are somehow slightly different. It is another version of live theater, definitely with production behind it. I love how they are so immersive, I think that is part of the appeal, that not only are actors portraying these intense characters, but that you’re a part of it too, and their performance often depends on your actions.

Halloween is the best holiday of the year. I love it. I love all the spooky stuff that takes place. I’m a huge horror fan and I love love love haunted houses and haunted walks and such. I used to act for my local haunted hayride every year and I loved it. I will definitely be going on at least some of these haunted tours this year. I love that some of these also include the history of Pittsburgh. Sometimes history is scarier than fake scary stories. It’s super cool that castle blood is interactive. I wonder how exactly one interacts with a haunted house. I wonder if you have to sign a waiver, I would assume so. The Phantom Fall fest looks so fun. I think it would be great to go for a full day, doing the day and night activities. I hope my schedule allows for me to do this this fall.

I am someone who HATES haunted houses and scary things with my entire being. Something about it just really does not sit well with me and I never enjoy them. I have however been talked into going to a few of them back home and while I usually hate every moment I have always found the production of them to be incredibly impressive. Looking through this article and clicking on some of the links I really enjoyed seeing the theatrical elements I am so familiar with in an unfamiliar setting for me. I think I would really enjoy working with some of these organizations and creating a really technically impressive haunted house that scared other people. I really wish I was someone who enjoyed going to them because I think there is an abundance of creativity and work I could learn a lot from. For now I will stick to looking at pictures on articles like this and hearing about them from those around me.
