What's onstage at Shakespeare theaters in January
Folger Shakespeare Library: Happy New Year! As the ball dropped, the confetti fell, and the year began, we started to wonder what 2024 had in store for us Shakespeare-lovers and theater-goers. To answer that question, we reached out to our theater partners across the United States to see what they were up to this month.

I didn't think this article would feature so many non-Shakespeare plays. I have only worked with one Shakespeare festival but they only produce one production during the summer, so there is no need to produce non-shakespearian works. However with large companies, I can see how producing multiple shows a year, you could run out of material and inspiration, so naturally it would make sense to produce normal plays. I wonder if there are any requirements for those other texts. If they follow a theme, if they are adaptations, or if they are all contemporary. I think it would be an interesting job to come up with a season for one of these companies and try to have a cohesive season with all types of productions. Out of the Shakespeare productions featured I am excited to see As You Like It, as it is my favorite Shakespeare comedy, if not my favorite one of his plays.
