Griselda: How Sofia Vergara Transformed with Fake Teeth, Prosthetics, and Wigs

www.elle.com/culture: From the looks of her wardrobe, it would be easy to mistake Griselda Blanco (Sofía Vergara) for a mob wife, but she, in fact, is the one running a powerful drug empire and earning the nickname “the Godmother.” Griselda’s quest to infiltrate the illicit business boys club is far from easy, and the Netflix limited series from co-creator and showrunner Eric Goldman (Narcos and Narcos: Mexico) depicts this unprecedented rise to infamy. Exclusive parties and nightclubs await, but this world is far from glitz and glam.

This makeup for Sofia Vergara is incredibly impressive. I don't think I would have recognized her from these images without knowing it was her. I think this kind of commitment to a full transformation of the face is quite incredible both for the actress and the wig and makeup team. I feel like these kinds of transformations only tend to occur when the film tells the story of a famous figure with a very recognizable face. Thus, it’s kind of surprising to see it done for Griselda, considering the fact Vergara is playing a mob wife. However, I do feel like the makeup done on her actually helps to make her role seem more convincing and gives her more of the look of a mob wife. Because Vergara has such a distinct look, it may be difficult for her to portray a role such as this without such a transformation. In general with the makeup, hair, and prosthetics combined, the whole makeup/wig team did an incredibly tactful job on Vergara’s transformation for her role as Griselda.

I’ve heard a lot about the show Griselda, and it was really interesting to read about Sofia Vergara's transformation into becoming the character. For this transformation, it took more than just costumes and makeup. It also took prosthetics and wigs, which I thought was really interesting. I thought it was cool to learn about how your prosthetics designer created this look for Vergara. I was surprised that Todd McIntosh said that they were trying to make Sofia look more plain and less like herself. I would’ve thought that they looked specifically at Griselda Blanco and tried to copy her facial structure. The differences in Sofia’s appearance or subtle. I think she’s still recognizable as herself, but at the same time She definitely does look different but I think it looks really natural which is quite impressive. I also think it was important that they changed her features to match the trends of the time. That it takes place in. For example, the show happens in the 70s so the way that they did her eyebrows with prosthetics makes it look more reminiscent of that era.
