It was very funny reading this article and thinking about all of the rigging I have been able to be a part of, having the brutal realization that so much of the worry I've had about doing those pieces of rigging must be nothing to the stress each of these people had. Of course, they were very well set up and had sensors on everything and surely did ample testing and calculation to ensure that nothing would even come close to the point of failure. In the theatre world, especially in regional theatre, there is almost nothing that comes close to this level of intensity. That brings about a point of almost not needing to do any calculations and just giving a reasonable guess to the weight of a set piece and the level of care that needs to come along with that. Reading this article makes me realize how much more work can go into rigging requirements and just the amount of items that are needed when getting to that level of rigging. It makes me wonder at what level of experience would someone be able to look at a project like that and know right away what it might take, or if it still needs a collaboration of minds to sit down and everyone pitches their ideas of what could make something like this work and become a reality.
