Alec Baldwin Rust shooting: Why he was indicted by a grand jury on involuntary manslaughter charges.
slate.com/culture: On Jan. 19, a New Mexico grand jury decided to indict actor Alec Baldwin on involuntary manslaughter charges related to the 2021 accidental fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust in Santa Fe. This decision comes exactly a year after the Rust lead actor, who also served as a producer on the project, was charged by the Santa Fe County’s district attorney’s office in a case that was ultimately dismissed last April.

I had heard about this case in 2021 when it first happened. It was quite weird and shocking, Baldwin shot Halyna Hutchins on a set of the movie he was working on, Rust. I enjoyed reading this article because it wasn’t extremely biased and understood both sides, like one of a jury. Baldwin claims he didn’t even trigger the gun, yet inspectors find that would be hard to pull off. I myself am not sure if this was a motivated crime or a horrible accident. To be someone who looks at these cases you cannot have a bias, but you do have to be skeptical towards every piece of evidence. How does one make a life-changing decision for someone else? It is different if you change your life drastically– but it is different if it is for someone else. I think the fact that it is Alec Baldwin we are talking about is the circumstances. If an unknown civilian shot Hutchins this case might be different.
