Photos Show the Biggest Style Trends of 1994
www.businessinsider.com: You might be surprised to realize that 1994 was 30 years ago — and how much style has changed since then.
It wasn't out of the ordinary to see the year's biggest stars rocking jeans, overalls, or miniskirts on the red carpet. Animal print and simple dresses were also in vogue, complemented by sheer black tights.

I love looking back at older fashion trends to see what was in style. It is always so interesting to see how styles and fads change and come back. The 90s was a really great time for fashion and a lot of my current style ties back to that time period. I am personally a very big denim person, so I love how fashionable denim was at the time and how much it was used. I can also appreciate the more laid-back styling. I like how celebrities were dressed a lot more casually. I do enjoy the fabulousness of the red carpet nowadays, but I feel like celebrities are not super pressured into always being dressed up and feel like there should be more opportunity for them to showcase more of their casual looks. Along with this idea, I love all of the grunge and leather looks from the 90s as well. I think that there is an edgy coolness with them that has inspired a lot of the current popular looks of fashion.
This was such a cool read, and as I am super interested in fashion history, it’s so fascinating to see from what these different styles originated from. As a huge Friends fan, it’s cool to learn which elements of their style were picked up in the 1990’s, as well as comparing the fashion then to that of today. I remember watching Friends and think in many of the episodes their outfits are super cute, and things I might wear today. Even non Friends related fashion, like the “movement” of oversized clothing, is still something that is popular today. Though some things, like animal print for example, haven’t quite gotten revitalized, many styles in fashion seem to go through cycles of coming back into the “trend” of the day, and so it’s interesting comparing the 90’s with today in that manner. A fun factor they included in the article was how fashion in award shows was much more reminiscent of everyday fashion at the time, and so could include jeans and grunge and be much more casual, whereas as you can see from the recent Golden Globes images, today’s award shows are filled with more high-end glamor and ‘fancy-dress’ formal attire. I wonder when exactly that shift happened, and what it says about us now versus then.
I find fashion trends so interesting. Especially the cyclical nature of them. It was so fun to read this article and compare what is in trend now to what was in trend in the 90s (which is still weird to think about as 30 years ago). For example, what was a revolutionary style choice, a slip dress, is now a very common article of clothing to be seen out and about and at fancy gatherings. It was also cool to see matching sets trending in the 90s as those have recently come back into fashion in the past few years as well. I find it interesting that velvet was such a big fabric in the 90s and was worn in a multitude of different articles of clothing. I am not sure I would have been cut out for that because I strongly dislike the feeling of velvet so I am grateful that has stayed in the 90s.
I found this article to be a fascinating read, I love learning about the fashions of the past, especially because it is interesting to see when they go in and out of style in more current times. Watching sitcoms like Cheers and Friends is always interesting, because it shows how much the styles changed throughout the seasons. In Friends many of the styles were consistent by character. Each character had their style which pretty much stayed throughout the show. In Cheers there was a little more variance in style just between the end of the 80s and the early 90s. I found this article very interesting because I identified many of the styles seen in Friends in the photos of other celebrities. It was also interesting because many of those styles have returned in the last few years, in fact I own similar outfits to the styles seen in the photographs.
