Major southern US church upgrades to Outline
LightSoundJournal.com: World Changers Church International (WCCI) was founded in 1981 by the renowned author, conference speaker and bible teacher Creflo Dollar and remains a leader within the local, national and international community, providing simple, practical teaching and understanding of the Bible. It is a thriving Christian worship center which in 1995 moved to its present location, the 8,500-seat World Dome in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia.

The phenomenon of southern mega-churches has just come to the attention of the general public thanks to social media and people are so shocked to see the caliber at which these churches operate on a technical level. What used to be mere church services are now full-on performances and concerts. Not to mention these churches will often produce musicals for the holiday season and they often have a resident performing company. I grew up in a mega church in Dallas Texas so this has always been a part of my general knowledge. I used to love going just for the music and production. The service would start off like a concert and just be 30 minutes of live music. I am excited to see that more churches are upgrading to high-quality tech to truly make a service an experience. I am not the biggest fan of the institutional church but everyone deserves cool tech.
There’s a lot to unpack in this article. I mean, first of all, it’s a pretty sick rig they’ve got going on. I’ve never heard of Outline before this article, but they really seem to have it going for them. Since starting comments on this blog, I’ve also read a lot about DiGiCo stuff, particularly mixers, and I’m kind of dying to try one out at this point. Just looking at the photos of this church makes me kind of jealous. The company I work summers for does a lot of church system overhauls and stuff, and we usually just slap 4 Fulcrum speakers on the wall, not any of this crazy stuff. But then again, we are usually working in churches and not the “World Dome” – as an outsider to church things, it seems like overkill to me. I laughed out loud when I opened the article and saw “simple, practical teaching” followed by the photo of a concert-grade AV rig. But to each their own.
