I had no idea that there was such a thing as the Lilly Awards. I commend Julia Jordan for founding them. I agree that there definitely was a need for celebrating women in theater. I had no idea that so few women were involved in producing theater in the early 2000s. That was not even that long ago, and it is upsetting to learn that it has taken this long for women to have an equal position in playwriting. I think that the Lilly Awards definitely served a great part in this, and Jordan should be proud of her work. I wonder if there are similar awards ceremonies for film because I feel like there is still a lack of women in film. There really aren’t that many women directors or writers in film, and I feel like they should be celebrated in something like the Lilly Awards. Ceremonies like these can really make a huge difference and make people recognize the lack of equality in certain industries, while also supporting those who are trying to make a difference.
