Big 10: Where the Broadway Creative Teams of the 2022–23 Season Went to College

Playbill: Every year, Playbill conducts an annual report on the top 10 colleges represented on Broadway through their alumni performers, we call it the School of the Stars. That feature is so popular that because of wide-spread demand, we've now created a separate report on creative team credits. The surprising thing is: the top results actually do vary. Still, one college stands at the top this year.

I had a hard time reading this. There were a lot of schools on the list that I was accepted to and decided not to attend. At first I was disappointed to not see CMU on the top and only listed as an honorable mention but I tried to correct the thought. While it is valid to feel disappointed CMU was still listed as an honorable mention and honestly I think there is so much pressure on choosing the “right” school that will send you straight to broadway. But honestly I think there are so many paths to success and even if I did attend NYU maybe I would not be as happy, or maybe the should would not have been as good of a fit for me. I think there should be less focus on which schools are sending the most students to Broadway and more focus on which school is the best fit for the individual student. There are things that I really did not like about the structure of some of the schools on that list. CMU felt like it would be the best place for me to learn and grow as a human being. I am glad I didn’t choose a school just because they send the most students to broadway. I recognize CMU is known for successful alumni and I would be lying if I said that did not influence my decision but I also saw myself growing the most with CMU’s specific program. I think any program can produce a successful student that allows them to grow and achieve what their own personal version of success is.
