Adobe’s AI image generators get beefy updates, including vector graphics

Ars Technica: On Tuesday, Adobe announced major updates to AI image synthesis features across several products, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Express. The updates include three new generative AI models—Firefly 2, Firefly Design Model, and Firefly Vector Model—which improve its previous offerings and add new capabilities. The recent developments in Adobe's AI image generators, as highlighted in the Ars Technica article, present a paradigm shift that is undeniably both awe-inspiring and slightly unnerving. The idea of AI generating vector images is groundbreaking, reflecting a transformative moment in the world of design. The initial reaction, a mix of amazement and trepidation, is a sentiment shared by many. However, the acknowledgment that there's no halting this technological evolution underscores the inevitability of embracing and adapting to these advancements. The call to "get with the program and learn to use it" resonates as a practical approach to the evolving landscape. This technology has the potential to redefine the creative process, challenging traditional notions of design and prompting a reevaluation of our methods. The analogy to the invention of the calculator is particularly poignant. Much like the calculator, AI is fundamentally a tool, and the fear it may evoke is akin to the initial apprehension surrounding calculators. It's a reminder that, ultimately, human agency remains integral – someone still needs to operate the tool, infusing it with creativity, purpose, and a nuanced understanding that AI alone cannot replicate. In essence, it's an invitation to master and harness the power of AI as a transformative tool in the creative arsenal.
