This is the sort of move in programming which tells me that a theater is confident enough to let its piece speak for itself and to actually inspire conversations post performance. School Girls is such a funny and clever show and raises some very interesting questions about issues of colorism in beauty standards, as well as the identity of the people of Ghana, so serving extra events during the run of the show seems to be totally justified, and a wonderful idea. What I liked the most is that a theater sees in the play a possibility for starting dialogue, rather than treating it simply as the business of selling tickets to the performance. Events like this also allow others to see the hope that theater radiates and it invites the audience in for a discussion that centers on its actual audience. Comedies in this vein have some special tone that is not easy to necessarily understand or replicate, so the pressure that the theater will invest in extra programming is a sign that the people know that their performance is more than just some comedy show.
