Crisis at the Kennedy Center: Why Its Main Building Is Going Dark for Two Years
time.com: The Kennedy Center Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted to immediately close the lauded arts institution’s main building. President Donald Trump, who is its Chairman, announced the decision on Truth Social.
Hours before the vote, a district court ruled against the Board’s latest effort to add Trump’s name back to the building—this time, in recognition of his purported role in the planned renovations. The closure decision also came one day after leadership claimed that the cultural center was on the brink of bankruptcy.

It is really devastating to see the Kennedy Center close. I understand that after 60 long years she is in need of desperate repairs and fixing but it is still very unfortunate. The center is under so much controversy and can not be repaired without money help as the building is going bankrupt. If the building shuts down it may never reopen. It is very cruel to hold such a monumental and historic building hostage all so that you can stick your name on it. This center is a place to celebrate art while honoring past president John F. Kennedy. The situation is really unfortunate especially during a time when art and artists are continuously under threat by AI and the government. I believe that when it comes to picking people to honor it shouldn’t be considered if they are “too woke” it should be by their art. Picked by other artists and creative personnel who have proper qualifications.
