Growing up in New York City I have seen the impact that Lincoln Center's summer has had for the city. I remember they had a concert in Prospect Park with the philharmonic and Gustavo dudamel. Dudamel is one of the worlds greatest and most renowned composers, and one day after school i went to the park with some chips and guac with my friends, sat on the grass, and heard classical music live for the first time. Many of these mediums of art like orchestras or operas feel so untouchable and for the elite, but by bringing the art into the city itself, the effect can be seen rippling through the crowd of people from every corner of the earth, every walk of life. My highschool sat directly behind Lincoln Center's campus and can in fact be seen in the photo at the top of the article. I ate lunch on the green roof or next to the big fountain every day. That place was my solace from the busy streets of the city and provided a wonderful third space for my friends and I to hang out.
