As someone who's only experience with sound comes from the live world I found the emphasis on tracks interesting. Of course in live entertainment you can't "fix it in post" so I'm used to thinking about getting a mix that is as good as you can get it live while not making your adjustments obvious. The ability to adjust the mix in post, even if limited by channels sounds very helpful for getting it just right. The part about seeing what instruments play when and possibly saving a channel if there's ever an instrument that doesn't play at the same time as another was very clever. The part about having more than one system in a way reminded me of film where multiple systems are a necessity due to its nature as a multi media format so at first I thought that it would be relatively simple to make a sound in the room and use that to synchronize the audio. But from reading the article it is clear that it would be difficult to ensure that it would be picked up by all the mics so it is better to use the more sophisticated techniques for synchronizing the audio mentioned in the article.
