Underbelly's Big Brain Tumour Benefit Raises £20,000 for Cancer Research
www.broadwayworld.com: Underbelly's 8th Annual Big Brain Tumour Benefit has raised £20,000 for Professor Richard Gilbertson's lab at The Cancer Research Centre in Cambridge, helping to fund new treatments for the most aggressive forms of brain tumours in children.
The Underbelly’s 8th Annual Big Brain Tumour Benefit was a wonderful event that raised £20,000 for the Cancer Research Centre in Cambridge. The money will help fund research into new treatments for aggressive forms of brain tumours in children. The benefit also supported Professor Richard Gilbertson’s laboratory, which works to improve the accuracy of brain tumour classification and treatment, with a major focus on childhood brain tumours. This research could make a significant difference in understanding the abnormalities that cause cancer and developing more effective treatments and potential cures through clinical trials. The one-night-only show brought together an incredible group of performers who generously gave their time to support this important cause. A huge thank you to Nish Kumar, Rhys James, Rosie Jones, Larry Dean, Catherine Bohart, Emmanuel Sonubi, Felicity Ward, and Justin Moorhouse for helping make the event such a success and raising awareness for such an important cause.
The Fringe is honestly a great place to host a charity benefit. After going to the Fringe and witnessing the community that it creates, it makes sense that there would be some places that take advantage (in a good way) of the amount of people who are just floating around the city during that time. I looked it up and it was only an hour and fifteen minutes which seems short for a benefit. It makes sense because it is still a Fringe show and they are supposed to be short, but I would think that it would be a little longer since it is a charity show for only one night. There were at least 8 different comedians which would mean that there was less than ten minutes per comedian which seems like a very short set to me. I think that they would be even more successful if they added even just one more night of the benefit.
